Residents across Delhi are facing continuous power cuts, even at the beginning of summer. Various parts of the city are already experiencing hours-long outages. Shockingly, even people of Power Minister Ashish Sood’s own constituency, Janakpuri, are badly affected by these cuts.
While BJP leaders claim that there are no power cuts in Delhi, this falsehood was exposed on Friday when Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Delhi Assembly, Atishi, visited Mahavir Enclave in Janakpuri and interacted with local residents. During the visit, residents revealed the BJP government’s failure and shared that there are daily, hours-long power cuts without any prior notice. This is causing immense trouble, particularly for the sick, the elderly, and small children.
On this, Atishi stated, “The people of Janakpuri are suffering due to power cuts. And this is just the beginning of summer. Every day, electricity is out for hours. The sick are suffering in silence, the elderly are exhausted waving hand fans, and children are being severely inconvenienced.”
“What’s most shocking is that this is happening in the constituency of Power Minister Ashish Sood. If there’s no electricity in his own area, what must be the state of the rest of Delhi?,” she asked.

Some elderly women told Atishi that they have been experiencing several hours of power outages in their area recently—something that hadn’t happened in the last 10 years. “Earlier, we barely experienced any cuts, but now it’s a daily ordeal,” they said. One resident added, “Ever since the BJP came to power, problems for ordinary people have increased. It feels like we made a huge mistake by voting for them. For Delhi, only Arvind Kejriwal was right.”

One woman, speaking with Atishi, said, “If this is what it’s like at the beginning of summer, it’s only going to get worse. I suffer from heart disease, and when the power goes out, it becomes impossible to stay indoors. It feels like we’re being punished.”
Power cuts affecting children’s studies; Delhi returns to the era of inverters and hand fans
Residents also shared that children’s education is being disrupted due to the outages. “In this extreme heat, with no electricity, we’ve gone back to using hand fans. There was a time we had removed inverters from our homes, but now, looking at the situation, we are being forced to buy them again,” they said.
