The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has slammed the BJP government for not passing the ₹2500 Mahila Samriddhi Yojana in its first Cabinet meeting. Senior AAP leader and former Delhi CM Atishi said BJP has betrayed women by breaking its promise. PM Modi, Amit Shah, and JP Nadda had assured that the scheme would be passed in the first Cabinet meeting, but CM Rekha Gupta proved them wrong. This shows that “Modi’s guarantee” is just a slogan. Now, the entire city is asking—when will women get their ₹2500.
In a press conference, senior AAP leader and former Delhi CM Atishi criticised the BJP for making unfulfilled promises to Delhi’s women voters before the elections. Atishi said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his rally in Dwarka on 31 January, addressed women as his ‘suraksha kawach’ and cited the example of schemes in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra where women beneficiaries received financial assistance.”
The senior AAP leader further added, “He then made a clear promise to Delhi’s women, stating— and I quote—‘I urge the women of Delhi to check whether their phone numbers are linked to their bank accounts. If not, get them linked, so that once the BJP forms the government, you will receive a message confirming that your money has been deposited. In the very first cabinet meeting, ₹2500 will be transferred to the accounts of women. This is Modi’s guarantee’.”
She further pointed out, “Not just PM Modi, but BJP National President JP Nadda also reinforced this promise. On 17 January 2025, during a press conference at the BJP headquarters, he declared that under the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, every woman in Delhi would receive ₹2500 per month. He assured that the scheme would be passed in the very first cabinet meeting. In the first cabinet meeting itself, the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana will be passed, and BJP commits to providing ₹2500 per month to Delhi’s women’.”
Taking aim at the BJP government in Delhi, Atishi highlighted, “Yesterday, the BJP’s Delhi government was sworn in, with CM Rekha Gupta and her council of ministers taking the oath. Later in the evening, at 7 PM, their government held its first cabinet meeting. Yet, despite all their grand promises, there was no mention of transferring ₹2500 to women’s accounts.”
The senior AAP leader continued her sharp attack on the BJP, stating, “If Modi’s guarantee was truly a guarantee, then in the very first cabinet meeting, the scheme to transfer ₹2500 to women should have been passed. If JP Nadda’s words were genuine, then by 7 PM yesterday, the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana should have been approved. But what happened? Rekha Gupta, on her very first day as Chief Minister, exposed PM Narendra Modi’s guarantee as a lie.”
She added, “Rekha Gupta has proven that PM Modi’s guarantees are not guarantees—they are mere ‘jumlas.’ She has shown that PM Modi’s word cannot be trusted. PM Modi repeatedly promised on every platform that in the first cabinet meeting, the scheme to transfer ₹2500 per month to women would be passed. But within just one day, Rekha Gupta has made a mockery of that promise. Not only PM Modi, but JP Nadda has also been exposed. He held rallies, roadshows, press conferences—each time, he repeated the same promise. And yet, on day one of the BJP government, Rekha Gupta has shown that JP Nadda’s words were just as false.”
Challenging the BJP leadership, Atishi asked, “Where are PM Modi’s guarantees now? He told women to link their phone numbers to their bank accounts in preparation for this scheme. And yet, his own Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, has shattered that promise. So, today, I ask Rekha Gupta— you have already proven one of PM Modi’s guarantees to be a lie in front of the entire country.”
Atishi questioned the BJP’s promises, stating, “Is Rekha Gupta going to prove PM Modi false again or every woman in Delhi is receiving ₹2500 in their bank accounts on 8 March. Today, women from different parts of Delhi have gathered here, and we all have just one question—when will ₹2500 be given?”
During a media interaction, the senior AAP leader highlighted Rekha Gupta’s day one of being CM. She said, “Her response was shocking—‘This is our government, this is our agenda. Who are they to question us?’ I am astonished. Rekha Gupta became BJP’s Chief Minister just yesterday, and on her very first day, she is asking PM Narendra Modi—‘Who are you to tell us what to do?’ She is asking JP Nadda—‘Who are you to dictate our agenda?’”
Atishi reminded the public, “It was PM Modi who made this promise. It was JP Nadda who guaranteed it. Yet, on the very first day, Rekha Gupta dismissed them both. She has proven that JP Nadda’s promises were false from day one. And now, PM Modi and JP Nadda can’t even question her. She is openly declaring that she will run the Delhi government as she pleases.”
