As Delhi continues to receive highly contaminated water from the Yamuna, senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, along with other party leaders, attempted to highlight the crisis by heading to the BJP headquarters with bottles of water containing 7 PPM ammonia—levels deemed unsafe for consumption. However, the police stopped them midway, citing the imposition of Section 163 in the area.
Sanjay Singh stated that they were only four people and had not violated any law, yet the police refused to let them proceed. He argued that if the water was safe, Home Minister Amit Shah, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, and Rahul Gandhi should drink it to prove its safety.
On Thursday, a delegation of senior AAP leaders, led by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, along with Jasmine Shah, Reena Gupta, former Delhi Mayor Dr. Shelly Oberoi, and Anurag Dhanda, attempted to peacefully deliver bottles of high-ammonia water to BJP and Congress leaders. However, Delhi Police stopped them, citing the imposition of Section 163, which restricts group gatherings.
Sanjay Singh emphasised, “We are not here to stage a protest. We only intend to hand over a bottle of this contaminated water to Amit Shah. If they are stopping us from doing so, they should take the bottle themselves and ensure it reaches him. Our demand is simple—let Amit Shah and BJP leaders drink this water if they claim it is safe.”
He further emphasized, “This is the same toxic water that was being released into Delhi, with ammonia levels six times the safe limit. It is extremely hazardous to public health and unfit for consumption.”
The senior AAP leader slammed the BJP, stating that his party wanted to deliver the high-ammonia water to the BJP office to prove its toxicity. “If this water is not poisonous, then Amit Shah should drink it. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini should also take a sip. Nayab Singh Saini couldn’t even drink a single drop,” Sanjay Singh said.
Sanjay Singh further lashed out at the BJP, saying, “They should be ashamed. They are forcing the people of Delhi to consume this toxic water. Do they want to poison and kill the people of this city?”
He added that AAP leaders were heading to the BJP office to hand over the contaminated water, but the police stopped them. “Since we are not being allowed to go further, we are leaving these bottles with the police. It is now their responsibility to ensure they reach the concerned leaders.”
