A high-level delegation from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, met with the Election Commission of India today to raise serious concerns regarding lapses and violations in the ongoing Delhi elections. The delegation included Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and Members of Parliament Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha.During the meeting, the AAP delegation presented instances of irregularities, including attempts to manipulate voter lists and blatant violations of the Model Code of Conduct in the New Delhi Assembly. They urged the Election Commission to act swiftly to ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral process. Reiterating the party’s demand, Arvind Kejriwal called for the immediate suspension and transfer of the DM of New Delhi, who also acts as the DEO of the constituency.Addressing the media, Arvind Kejriwal began by sincerely thanking the Election Commission for arranging their meeting with the delegation on a short notice. “We informed the Election Commission about how, in the New Delhi Assembly constituency, applications are being filed using addresses of BJP MPs and Ministers for creating 30-40 votes each in the last 15-20 days. They assured us that, under no circumstances, even a single fraudulent vote would be allowed, and each vote would undergo a deep inquiry before any action is taken,” he said. Arvind Kejriwal informed that the delegation also raised the issue of blatant distribution of cash & kind by the BJP candidate in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. “Yesterday, blankets were distributed in Kidwai Nagar, shoes were distributed in another colony, jackets in another, and cash and glasses are also being handed out. But, the local DM’s report states that no such activity is happening,” he said.“We pointed out that this clearly shows the local DM is complicit. When blankets are being distributed openly, trucks loaded with blankets are arriving in the afternoon, and the entire world can see it, how is it possible that the DM cannot see it? This makes it evident that the DM is involved,” he added.Arvind Kejriwal further said that the party has once again requested the suspension of the DM and strict action against him, along with the cessation of all these illegal activities. “The Election Commission has assured us that all these activities will be stopped. We thank the Election Commission for their prompt response and assurance.” he noted. He also informed that the Election Commission has issued orders to shift the voter registration of AAP’s Patparganj Candidate Avadh Ojha, and his vote will now be registered in Delhi. Consequently, he will be able to file his nomination. I also want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Election Commission for this.Speaking to the media, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann talked about how the Election Commission has assured the delegation regarding its concerns, including the fraudulent mass registration of voters at the residences of BJP MPs and Ministers. He added that BJP’s situation has become like that of a pot that calls a kettle black. “They are registering 20-25 fake votes on a single address to target the New Delhi assembly. This shows their frustration, they’ve realised they’re destined to lose,” the Punjab CM said.
