The streets of Delhi roared with outrage as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), under the leadership of its National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, staged a massive protest outside the BJP headquarters. The demonstration came in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s disparaging remarks about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in Parliament, an act AAP leaders have described as a blatant insult to the architect of India’s Constitution.
Leading the charge, Arvind Kejriwal thundered during the sit-in. He vowed to take the fight to every corner of the country, ensuring that the BJP’s actions are exposed and condemned. “Dr. Ambedkar is the voice of the oppressed and the cornerstone of India’s democracy. Amit Shah’s insult to him is an insult to every Dalit, every underprivileged citizen, and every believer in equality. We will not let this pass.” He further slammed the BJP for systematically attacking the values that Babasaheb stood for.
The protest went on to demand an immediate apology from Amit Shah and strict action against him, including his sacking from his post. The outrage spilled over into the streets, as people from all walks of life joined the agitation to express their anger at what they saw as a calculated attempt to undermine Ambedkar’s legacy.
AAP’s senior leaders including, Manish Sisodia, MP Sanjay Singh, National General Secretary (Organisation) Dr. Sandeep Pathak, CM Atishi and Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, alongside several MLAs, stood shoulder to shoulder with the public, emphasizing the party’s commitment to defending the dignity of Dr. Ambedkar and the Constitution he created. The massive turnout reflected the widespread anger and deep hurt caused by Amit Shah’s remarks, which have struck a chord with millions across the country.
The protest site was electrified with banners and slogans of “Babasaheb Ka Apmaan Nahi Sahega Hindustan,” “Jai Bhim Jai Bhim,” and “Ambedkar Ambedkar,” “Amit Shah Mafi Maango” which engulfed the atmosphere, resonating with the unwavering spirit of the protesters. Thousands of supporters, alongside the entire AAP cadre, senior leaders, and ministers, took to the streets in a historic show of unity and outrage.
Addressing the crowd, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, expressed strong disapproval of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks in Parliament, stating that they amounted to an insult to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He said, “Amit Shah mocked Dr. Ambedkar by saying, ‘Chanting Ambedkar, Ambedkar won’t help; it’s better to sing the praises of God, and maybe you’ll reach heaven.’ I want to remind Amit Shah that for millions of Dalits, the poor, the oppressed, the marginalized, and the underprivileged in this country, Dr. Ambedkar is no less than a God.”
Arvind Kejriwal further emphasized, “We cannot say if one reaches heaven after death, but here on earth, millions of underprivileged people owe their dignity and rights to Dr. Ambedkar, who gave them the Constitution. Amit Shah’s comments have deeply hurt the sentiments of millions of Indians. Personally, I consider Dr. Ambedkar my idol and try to follow the path he showed. During challenging times, I turn to his biography for inspiration. His struggles continue to motivate me and countless others. The Aam Aadmi Party is committed to upholding the values and principles of Dr. Ambedkar. Amit Shah’s remarks have offended millions who revere Dr. Ambedkar.”
Arvind Kejriwal also slammed the BJP over its deliberate malice, stating, “The way Prime Minister Modi defended Amit Shah makes it evident that this was not a spontaneous remark but a calculated strategy by the BJP to insult Dr. Ambedkar in Parliament. We strongly condemn this. The BJP has now made its position clear: they are against Dr. Ambedkar and the Constitution he gave us. BJP supporters must now choose—do they stand with Dr. Ambedkar or with the BJP? They cannot support both. The BJP’s leadership has unequivocally shown their disdain for Dr. Ambedkar, and we demand strict action against Amit Shah. While no action can completely undo the hurt caused, it is essential to send a message that such disrespect will not be tolerated.”
Arvind Kejriwal vowed to take the issue nationwide, saying, “We will take this matter to every household, exposing how the BJP’s top leadership has insulted Dr. Ambedkar. In Delhi and across the country, we will ensure people are aware of how the BJP is disrespecting the architect of our Constitution. We deeply condemn these remarks and share in the pain felt by millions.”
Senior AAP Leader Manish Sisodia also weighed in, stating, “Home Minister Amit Shah appears irritated by the growing reverence for Dr. Ambedkar. Today, the entire nation is chanting, ‘Ambedkar, Ambedkar.’”
Stating that the Aam Aadmi Party will not tolerate any insult to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Arvind Kejriwal took to X through a series of tweets. “Dr. Ambedkar gave us the Constitution, which is the foundation of our democracy. It is because of his vision and efforts that leaders like you (Amit Shah) are in power today. If you have an issue with Dr. Ambedkar’s name, then step down from your position of authority,” he wrote.
Reiterating his appeal to the public, he wrote: “Jo Baba Saheb se kare pyaar,
Woh BJP ko kare inkaar.” (Those who love Dr. Ambedkar must reject the BJP.)
Arvind Kejriwal also called upon NDA members, stating, “The people of this country want to ask leaders like Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu – do you support the insult to Dr. Ambedkar by Amit Shah?”
Addressing Prime Minister Modi directly, Arvind Kejriwal expressed his dismay over the PM’s response: “Prime Minister, I am shocked to read your statement. You have claimed that Congress treated Dr. Ambedkar unfairly. How does that justify your Home Minister’s insult to him? Does Congress’s wrongdoing give you and your party the right to do the same? Your justification is deeply disappointing and only adds insult to injury. Yesterday, the entire nation was outraged by your Home Minister’s remarks in Parliament. Now, your statement has rubbed salt on the wounds of the people.”
Highlighting the Home Minister’s comments, he earlier wrote: “See how Amit Shah mocked Dr. Ambedkar in Parliament. The arrogance of the BJP has reached such heights that they no longer respect anyone. Yes, Amit Shah ji, Dr. Ambedkar is nothing less than a God to the underprivileged, the Dalits, and the oppressed in this country. We cannot say what happens after death, but if it were not for Dr. Ambedkar’s Constitution, the BJP would never have let these communities live with dignity on this earth. ‘Baba Saheb ka apmaan, Nahi sahega Hindustan.’ (India will not tolerate the insult of Dr. Ambedkar.) Jai Bhim!”
