AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal expressed grave concern over the worsening law and order situation in Delhi, directly holding the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Union Home Minister Amit Shah responsible. He highlighted the growing sense of fear among residents in light of a shooting incident in Vishwas Nagar and a double-stabbing in Govindpuri that occurred this morning.
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal condemned the state of law and order in the city in a statement. He said, “the people of Delhi are living in fear. The law and order situation in Delhi has deteriorated significantly. On Saturday morning, a utensil trader named Sunil, a resident of Vishwas Nagar, went for a morning walk. While he was returning home, two bike riders shot him eight times in the middle of the road and killed him. How did the criminals become so bold as to shoot someone in broad daylight and escape? How have criminals become so fearless in Delhi?”
He added that shortly after, there was news of someone being stabbed in Govindpuri. “Just a week ago, at the same spot in Govindpuri, a police constable was stabbed to death. Today, traders in Delhi are receiving ransom calls openly. They receive calls demanding crores of rupees, threatening that if they don’t pay, a family member will be killed. The callers even provide detailed information about the traders’ family members, saying, “Your son or daughter is at this location, and if you don’t pay, they will be killed.” The traders are terrified.”
Arvind Kejriwal said that a sweet shop owner received a call demanding ₹2 crore. ”When he refused, a hail of bullets was fired at his shop. A car showroom owner was asked for ₹5 crore. When he refused, 22 rounds were fired at his showroom. There are countless such cases, and in all these incidents, the police catch those who do the firing and consider the case closed. However, the actual gangsters and masterminds behind the extortion roam free. Where should people go? Who should they turn to for security?”
He stated that even the elderly feel unsafe. ”In Panchsheel Enclave, a 64-year-old man was stabbed to death at night. Women feel unsafe. They are being abducted, raped, gang-raped, and then murdered. Girls face harassment when they step out of their homes. Open gang wars are happening. Drugs are being sold everywhere in Delhi, on every corner. Where are these drugs coming from? Today, you can’t even carry a mobile phone on the road because someone might snatch it and run away. Thieves are snatching chains and purses and escaping. There are so many incidents of snatching. Where is the Delhi Police?”
Arvind Kejriwal said that Delhi operates with two governments. “Ten years ago, the people of Delhi elected our government. They asked us to fix schools, and we fixed them. They asked us to improve hospitals, and we did that. They said to improve electricity, and we did. The people gave the BJP’s central government one responsibility: law and order. Ensuring public safety is the central government’s responsibility, particularly the responsibility of the Home Minister, Amit Shah. The people entrusted this single responsibility to Amit Shah and the BJP, and they have completely failed. They have ruined Delhi. They only indulge in dirty politics, which will not provide safety to the people of Delhi. I have made a humble appeal to them to take concrete steps to ensure public safety and stop making statements.”
On the issue of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis, Arvind Kejriwal questioned, “Who brought the Rohingyas to Delhi? Rohingyas are either coming from Burma or Bangladesh. How did they cross the border? That was also Amit Shah’s responsibility. After crossing the border, how did they reach Delhi? That was Amit Shah’s responsibility as well; he is the country’s Home Minister. Who settled them in Delhi? It was Amit Shah who settled them. So, he knows where the Rohingyas are. If Rohingyas are in Delhi, why aren’t they being caught? If Rohingyas are committing crimes, why aren’t they being apprehended? Why isn’t the Delhi Police catching them? Why isn’t Amit Shah taking action? This is what pains me.”
Arvind Kejriwal reiterated that the people of Delhi feel unsafe. “Gang wars are rampant. When the people of Delhi say they are living in fear, facing attacks, and witnessing murders, the BJP resorts to politics. They accuse Arvind Kejriwal of settling Rohingyas. Is this what we should expect from the BJP? Will such behavior ensure security? Will indulging in dirty politics provide safety? When people talk about their security and look to Amit Shah, they expect him to strengthen policing, increase security, and catch the real gangsters. Major gangsters have been operating in Delhi for years. This government doesn’t have the courage to catch even one gangster. Why not? What kind of collusion do they have with these gangsters?”
Through a series of tweets, he wrote, “Amit Shah has ruined Delhi. He has turned Delhi into a lawless jungle. People are living in fear everywhere. The BJP is no longer capable of managing Delhi’s law and order. The people of Delhi must unite and raise their voices.”
In another tweet, he wrote, “After the shooting incident in Vishwas Nagar, we are now hearing reports of a stabbing in Govindpuri. Under BJP’s rule, criminals have become completely fearless.”
