Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly condemned the arrest of its MLA Naresh Balyan by the Delhi Police, calling it a blatant misuse of power by the BJP-led central government. Senior AAP leader & Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh slammed the BJP of orchestrating a baseless conspiracy to divert attention from the crumbling law and order situation in the national capital.
Despite prior court orders staying the use of a fabricated audio clip, the BJP has not only violated judicial directives but has also weaponized the same false narrative to malign AAP and its leaders. Sanjay Singh called this arrest a “shameful attempt” by the BJP to intimidate AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and his team for raising concerns about Delhi’s safety.
Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Singh stated that ever since Arvind Kejriwal raised questions about Delhi’s deteriorating law and order situation, highlighting incidents of gang wars, gang rapes, illegal extortion from traders, and murders, the BJP-led central government, and Amit Shah himself, have been targeting him and his associates.
Sanjay Singh asserted that instead of addressing these pressing issues, they have been busy conspiring against members of the Aam Aadmi Party. As part of this vendetta, the Delhi Police has today arrested AAP MLA Naresh Balyan.
The AAP MP added that the entire case revolves around threats that Naresh Balyan himself had reported. “In July 2023, he received threats from a gangster named Kapil Sangwan. He lodged multiple complaints with the police regarding these threats on 19th and 20th December 2022, then on 3rd and 5th July 2023. He had himself filed five complaints in total about the harassment and intimidation he faced to the Delhi Police. Acting on these complaints, the Delhi Police even provided him with security.”
Sanjay Singh continued, “In August 2023, a TV channel aired a fake audio clip with the clear intent of defaming Naresh Balyan. The Delhi High Court intervened and issued a stay order against the broadcast of this clip. Despite this, the BJP blatantly ignored the court’s order and re-released the same audio clip in the media, in an attempt to defame the AAP MLA and the AAP.”
The AAP MP reasoned that instead of taking action against BJP members for flouting the High Court’s directive, the police arrested Naresh Balyan without any solid evidence, in a completely baseless case.
Sanjay Singh asserted, “This raises serious questions about the rule of law. Is this Amit Shah and BJP’s law? If Arvind Kejriwal speaks out about Delhi’s safety, will his MLAs be arrested and attacked? The AAP is a party of fighters and will not be intimidated by such empty threats. Do whatever you want; we will continue to raise our voices for the safety and security of Delhi’s citizens.”
