The Aam Aadmi Party has called out BJP & Union Home Minister Amit Shah for failing to address the escalating crime rates in the national capital. Responding to a life-threatening attack on him during a public event, today, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal questioned the BJP’s priorities, stating, “Will crime rates reduce by stopping me? Will shootouts stop happening? Will women and traders no longer face threats?”
The incident, which occurred just a day after Arvind Kejriwal raised concerns about rising crime in Delhi, has drawn widespread condemnation. AAP leaders and Chief Ministers of AAP-ruled states have strongly criticized the BJP, accusing it of orchestrating violence to suppress dissent. Senior AAP Leader Manish Sisodia, called the attack “highly concerning,” adding, “It is no coincidence that this comes right after Arvind Kejriwal spoke out against the BJP’s failure to control crime in Delhi.” Delhi CM Atishi condemned the attack as a “shameful act” by the BJP, stating that “Delhiites will seek revenge for this betrayal by reducing BJP to zero seats.” Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also weighed in, remarking, “The BJP chooses violence whenever it has to mask its failures.”
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “Amit Shah should focus on curbing rising crime in Delhi. He won’t achieve anything by silencing me. Will crime in Delhi reduce if you stop me? Will open shootouts in Delhi come to an end? Will women in Delhi become safe? Will the traders of Delhi feel secure?”
Senior AAP leader and former Deputy CM, Manish Sisodia, also took to X (erstwhile Twitter) and stated, “Today, a BJP goon attacked Arvind Kejriwal. Yesterday, he questioned the deteriorating law and order in Delhi, and today, he was cowardly attacked. This act shows how rattled the BJP got when their governance was questioned. But let this be clear to the BJP—you’re dealing with Arvind Kejriwal. He won’t be intimidated by your goons or their attacks.”
Meanwhile, CM Atishi said on social media platform X, “Today, in broad daylight, a BJP worker attacked Arvind Kejriwal. The frustration of losing the Delhi elections for the third time is evident in the BJP. BJP, beware – The people of Delhi will respond to such disgraceful actions. Last time, you won 8 seats; this time, Delhiites will reduce you to zero seats,” she added.
Senior AAP leader and Punjab CM, Bhagwant Mann, said on social media platform X, “The attack on Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi’s Greater Kailash is utterly shameful. Ever since he started questioning the BJP about Delhi’s law and order and the safety of its citizens, the BJP has been completely rattled. This attack is a result of that frustration. This is the third attack on him in just 35 days. Whenever the BJP fails in fulfilling its responsibilities, they resort to violence and intimidation.”
Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Singh, stated that first Vikaspuri, then Nangloi, and now Greater Kailash—BJP goons are repeatedly attacking Arvind Kejriwal. He said, “The person behind today’s attack has a picture with Home Minister Amit Shah. If someone can get a photo with the Union Home Minister, you can imagine how close they must be to the BJP.”
The AAP MP reasoned, “In Vikaspuri, it was members of the BJP Youth Wing who attacked. In Nangloi, it was a BJP MP who led goons to attack Arvind Kejriwal. And today, in Greater Kailash, once again, the attacker was a BJP worker. This shows how rattled the BJP has become.”
Sanjay Singh said that ever since Arvind Kejriwal started raising questions about Delhi’s safety, law and order, gang wars, murders, lootings, and illegal extortion of businesspersons, the BJP has been in complete panic. He said, “Instead of fixing Delhi’s law and order, the Home Minister is focusing on how to attack Arvind Kejriwal. The BJP is doing nothing to improve safety in Delhi; their entire focus is on targeting him.”
He emphasised that this is deeply unfortunate for our democracy. How can democracy survive like this? How can Delhi remain safe in such a situation? Earlier today, Arvind Kejriwal visited Panchsheel to meet the family of a 64-year-old man who was brutally murdered—stabbed 27 times and his throat slit. And now, while leading a padyatra, he’s being attacked.
Sanjay Singh questioned, “What is happening in the nation’s capital? Is Amit Shah trying to say that if anyone raises concerns about Delhi’s law and order, they will target them? The person who attacked Arvind Kejriwal today threw spirit on him, had a matchbox in his hand, and could have done anything deadly. The people of Delhi and the country are watching. When the time comes, they will give a fitting response to this.”
Meanwhile, senior AAP leader and Cabinet Minister, Saurabh Bharadwaj, took to X saying, “The person who tried to kill Arvind Kejriwal is a BJP member. Is the BJP resorting to murder now that they’re losing?”
Senior AAP leader and Cabinet Minister, Gopal Rai, posted on social media platform X, saying, “The attack on Arvind Kejriwal during the padyatra today shows that law and order in Delhi has completely collapsed. If even a former Chief Minister is not safe, how can the BJP-led central government and Home Minister Amit Shah ensure the safety of the common people?”
Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Raghav Chadha stated on X, “Yesterday, Arvind Kejriwal raised his voice against the worsening law and order situation in Delhi, and today, he was cowardly attacked. This is highly condemnable. There is no place for violence in democratic politics. Arvind Kejriwal carries the blessings of crores of people with him.” He concluded by saying, ‘Jako rakhe saiyan, maar sake na koye’ – When God protects, no harm can come.
