AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal is spearheading the Delhi government’s prompt road repairs drive in the national capital. Under the guidance of Arvind Kejriwal, following inspections, Chief Minister Atishi and Delhi government officials identified 89 key PWD roads spanning 230 kilometers in urgent need of repair. With tenders issued for 74 roads, patchwork already completed on 15% of damaged roads, and 52 percent potholes filled.
The AAP chief fired a broadside at the BJP for halting AAP government’s projects during his incarceration, including vital road repairs. Now back, Arvind Kejriwal has personally overseen the resumption of these works, ensuring swift progress across the city.
Arvind Kejriwal held a joint press conference with Chief Minister Atishi on Monday at the party headquarters regarding the repair of Delhi roads. He said that these people (BJP) left no stone unturned in harassing the people of Delhi. They stopped many works of the Delhi government. After returning, for the last few days, I, along with CM Atishi went out to inspect some roads. People were complaining that the roads in their area had become bad. They had even stopped the routine maintenance of the roads.
“During the inspection we found that the condition of the roads was not good. Then I requested Atishi to inspect all the PWD roads of Delhi by hitting the streets with the MLAs and ministers and the bad roads should be repaired immediately. I had also written a letter to Atishi on this subject,” he stated
Expressing satisfaction at the speed of the repair work, Arvind Kejriwal shared, “I am happy that all the MLAs, leaders and ministers of our party have come out on the roads day and night and inspected them. Which road is how bad and where, what work needs to be done, a report has been prepared of all of them. The work of repairing and re-carpeting has also started.
Meanwhile, Delhi CM Atishi said, “The BJP’s central government orchestrated a conspiracy against the AAP and our leader Arvind Kejriwal, fabricating charges that resulted in his unjust imprisonment for six months. The goal of this conspiracy was to stop the good work being done by the Delhi government at any cost. And everyone saw how, over the past six months, the daily work of Delhi’s people was disrupted.”
Despite these challenges, CM Atishi said she was glad that the BJP’s efforts to derail Delhi’s development had failed. “I am happy that none of the BJP’s conspiracies succeeded. The Supreme Court granted bail to our leader Arvind Kejriwal and strongly reprimanded the central government,” she stated.
Once Arvind Kejriwal was released, the Delhi government immediately began focusing on infrastructure work. “After Arvind Kejriwal was released from jail, I inspected several PWD roads with him. Following this, Arvind Kejriwal handed me a letter in the Delhi Assembly regarding the maintenance of PWD roads,” said CM Atishi.
The Delhi government responded swiftly to address the issues identified during these inspections. “Since then, the Delhi government immediately started repairing PWD roads on a war footing. A meeting of all cabinet ministers was called regarding this. Since then, all ministers, MLAs, and PWD officials have inspected all PWD roads in Delhi within a week,” CM Atishi said.
Atishi noted that Delhi has 1,400 kilometers of PWD-maintained roads, totaling 7,000 lane kilometers. After the inspections, all the data was uploaded to the PWD website for public accountability.
“Based on these inspections, it was determined that 89 roads, totaling 230 kilometers (or 1,240 lane kilometers), require complete strengthening. Tenders for 74 of these roads have already been issued, and work will begin soon. The remaining 15 roads are also in the tendering process, and work will start shortly after finalization,” shared the Delhi Chief Minister.
Regarding partial repairs, CM Atishi mentioned that approximately 2,53,000 square meters of road require patchwork. “I am happy to report that 39,500 square meters of patchwork have already been completed in a week, and the rest will be finished by October 31. During the inspection, 6,671 potholes were found, of which 3,454 have been filled, and the remaining 3,217 will also be repaired in the coming days,” she added.
CM Atishi pointed out the poor condition of many roads caused by ongoing construction work by various agencies. “Many roads are in poor condition because of ongoing work by DMRC, RRTS in the Sarai Kale Khan area, or because DISCOMs companies did not repair roads after laying power lines. The PWD will hold meetings with all these agencies and start repair work on the damaged roads soon,” she said.
Meanwhile, Delhi CM Atishi shared on her ‘X’ handle (erstwhile Twitter): “To stop the work of the people of Delhi, the BJP central government hatched a conspiracy against Arvind Kejriwal ji and put him in jail. But now Delhiites’ son Arvind Kejriwal is out of jail. Under his guidance, the Delhi government is working on a war footing to make the city’s roads pothole-free.”
“Last week all the Cabinet Ministers of Delhi Government and “AAP” MLAs inspected every inch of 1400 Km (7000 lane Km) of PWD roads. After inspection, it was found that 89 roads need to be built afresh. Of which tenders have been issued for 74 roads and the remaining 15 roads are also in the tender process. Also, 2.53 lakh square meters of roads need patchwork. And in the last week itself, patchwork has been done on about 40,000 square meter area. All the remaining work will be completed by 31 October. Also, more than half of the 6671 potholes have been filled, the rest will also be repaired soon,” Delhi CM’s post concluded.
