Senior AAP leader and former Ex-Deputy CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia on Tuesday vowed to block the BJP-led Lieutenant Governor’s (LG) plan to demolish hundreds of homes in Madrasi Camp, where thousands have lived for decades.
During his visit, the former Deputy CM assured affected families that the AAP government would stand firm in their defence, vowing no one would be rendered homeless as long as AAP is in power. AAP MLA from Jangpura Praveen Kumar was also present during the visit.
After meeting the people living in Madrasi Camp near Purana Barapullah, senior AAP leader and ex-Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said that the BJP has created terror in the whole of Delhi. BJP intimidates officers by telling LG and getting notices issued from them. After this, BJP members themselves come and protest.
“People have been living in Madrasi Camp for more than 50-60 years. Their children got married here. These people cannot be displaced without any arrangement for rehabilitation, this is wrong. AAP stands with these people and we will not let their slums be demolished like this,” stated the former Deputy CM.
Manish Sisodia posted on his ‘X’ handle (erstwhile Twitter), stating, “Injustice will not be tolerated with slum dwellers in ‘Bulldozer Raj’. Thousands of people living in the ‘jhuggis’ of Madrasi Camp in Delhi are an integral part of Delhi. If the LG and BJP try to demolish their houses, we will not tolerate it at all. We will fight strongly against dictatorship to save the houses of these people. Whether we have to fight in court or on the ground for this. The AAP government has given shelter to the needy, has built houses for people, free electricity and water, and excellent education. But the BJP has only demolished already settled homes of people. The level of education has worsened.”
The senior AAP leader said that these people were promised plots. They have little children, how can they be displaced? These are the people of India. When we talk about India of 2047, aren’t their children a part of that India? How can these people demolish their houses like this? Where will these people go?
“We will not let these slums be demolished at all. We are also fighting a legal battle. Our local MLA has also provided a lawyer for these people. This notice has been issued to intimidate the PWD officials. We will not let it be demolished. These orders will be withdrawn and they will be fully helped. Arvind Kejriwal is educating their children, he is not doing this so that they can be displaced from here,” concluded Manish Sisodia.
