This omission stands in stark contrast to the International Labor Organization’s (ILO) report, which ranks India with the highest youth unemployment rate globally. The mismatch of the Centre Government’s figures with the National Sample Survey Office’s (NSSO) previous data further underscores concerns. The growing unemployment crisis is not only undermining the country’s economy but also threatening social stability, demanding urgent action from the central government.
In the budget session of Parliament, the unemployment figures received from the central government, in response to unstarred question number 1247 asked by AAP MP Sanjay Singh in the context of rampant unemployment in the country, are seriously flawed. The answer given by the Ministry of Labor and Employment to MP Sanjay Singh’s questions confirms the deception and injustice done to the youth by the Central Government by hiding the unemployment figures.
The Central Government has deliberately hidden crucial data to hide the real situation of unemployment. Important information such as the total number of unemployed, unemployment rate by education level, number of vacancies in government jobs and percentage of contract-based recruitments have been hidden from the public. For example, a recent report by the ILO said that the unemployment rate in India is much higher than the government figures. As per the report, the youth unemployment rate in India is the highest in the world. Apart from this, the old data of the NSSO is also quite different from the government figures, which raises questions about the credibility of the data released by the government.
Unemployment in the country is a serious national problem and accurate data is a requisite to solve it. The Central government should make the real figures of unemployment public so that effective policies can be made to deal with this problem. The increasing level of unemployment is having a serious impact on the country’s economy and society. The government should take immediate steps to deal with the problem of unemployment.
