No other govt developed rural Delhi as much as my govt: CM Shri Kejriwal

Najafgarh’s 21 year long wait comes to an end: CM Shri Kejriwal

CM had promised to ensure the Metro reaches Najafgarh before 2015 election: Shri Kailash Gahlot

: Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal on Friday inaugurated the Grey Line on the Dwarka-Najafgarh route of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The 4.2 km Grey Line will connect the Najafgarh area to the rest of the city by Metro and will have three stations on the route including Dwarka, Nangli and Najafgarh. The Najafgarh station will be the longest stand-alone underground station in the Delhi metro network.

“I would like to congratulate all of you for the opening of the Grey Line in the Najafgarh area. The Delhi Metro network has now grown to 377 km with the induction of the Grey Line metro. Delhi is one of the only two-three cities in the entire world to have such a large metro network, and I am glad Delhi metro network has been added to the list of the largest metro networks in the world. Delhi metro has played a significant role in the development and progress of Delhi as a city,” said the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister also tweeted in this regard, “Now you can reach any corner of Delhi within one hour. The people of rural Delhi were disappointed that the previous governments did nothing for them. But now they are very happy. No other government has developed rural Delhi and outer Delhi as much as my government.”

Cabinet Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Member of Parliament Shri Parvesh Varma, and Delhi transport Minister Shri Kailash Gahlot were also present at the inauguration ceremony.

The DMRC has constructed a separate 80-meter passage to connect the Dwarka Blue Line metro station with the Dwarka Grey Line metro station. Apart from this, there is a provision of around 2000-square meters of additional parking space and multi-modal integration for road transport. The Grey Line route will be further extended till Dhansa Stand by December 2020.

The Chief Minister also spoke about the substantial role of Delhi metro in the development of Delhi. He said, “We can only imagine the level of pollution in the city if the entire traffic load had been on our buses. Delhi government is working with conviction to tackle the issue of pollution in the city, and it is due to these efforts that the pollution in Delhi has reduced by 25%. I hope that with the constant expansion of the Delhi Metro network, the dependence on road transportation will decrease and more and more people will start using the metro as a conveyance.”

Najafgarh is the last constituency in the South West Delhi which earlier had no metro connectivity with any other part of Delhi. The Grey Line metro route will ensure the last-mile connectivity for the people to other parts of the city, including Noida and Gurgaon in a maximum travel time of one hour. “I am happy that the 21 year old wait of the people of Najafgarh is finally over,” said the Chief Minister.

“The total power consumption of the Delhi Metro is 300 MW, out of which one-third is generated via solar energy. The power consumption of the metro is 5% of the total power consumption of Delhi. Thus, solar-generated energy is a great step towards building a sustainable future for the city,” said the Chief Minister.

70 villages and 400 colonies connected to this metro route

Delhi Transport Minister and Najafgarh MLA Shri Kailash Gahlot said that the people of this area had been demanding a metro route for years.

“The Chief Minister has fulfilled his long-due promise of a metro line to Najafgarh which he made during 2015 assembly elections. I may be the Transport Minister but before that, I am the MLA of Najafgarh, I know the pain of the public living here. I am so emotional seeing tears of joy in the eyes of the people,” said Shri Kailash Gahlot.

“About 70 villages and 400 colonies of outer Delhi have been connected to this metro line,” he added.
