New Delhi – Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister of Delhi, Shri Mansh Sisodia congratulated the graduating batch of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW), Kashmere Gate, Delhi in a convocation ceremony that took place here on Wednesday. Certificates and medals were conferred upon the students on the occasion of the 2nd Convocation Ceremony of IGDTUW, Delhi.

Addressing the students, teachers and officials present at the event, Shri Manish Sisodia said, “I must appreciate the efforts of the team at Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women for continuously work hard and parallelly with the Delhi Government. We have a lot of confidence in these universities, who have been striving to improve the quality of education by working with the Delhi Government. IGDTUW is a great example of the same.”

Appreciate the efforts of IGDTUW for promoting an Entrepreneurial culture amongst students- Dy CM Manish Sisodia

While laying out the importance of Entrepreneurship in the present scenario of education, where the parameters of success are measured on the criteria of securing good jobs and decent pay-packages, Shri Manish Sisodia said, “I have always noticed that we give immense focus and importance to jobs and salaries that our students have secured, but we fail to appreciate those students who want to start a business venture of their own. We also forget to register and appreciate the continued efforts of the university in developing an entrepreneurial ecosystem and promoting business ideas leading to job creation thereby speeding up the economic development of the country. The start-ups conceived within this university are gaining appreciation from all corners. I congratulate our young entrepreneurs from IGDTUW who are being awarded for their work; it just goes on to show the amount of importance given to entrepreneurship in this university.”

Need to encourage Job creators along with consumers- Dy CM Manish Sisodia

Deputy CM Manish Sisodia also said, “ It is a moment of pride for us that students of this university have landed opportunities with great corporate giants like Google. I am now looking forward to the day when our students would set up organizations of their own that will attract students and potential employees from across the globe.”

“The reason why I am stressing on the need for developing an entrepreneurial mindset is because it will also address the widespread issue of unemployment and lack of opportunities for our youth in this country,” he added. “Our best brains are committed to work and develop high-end products for foreign companies, also giving a push to their economy, be it the US, Japan or China. Imagine, when our students start dedicating their efforts in their independent ventures in our country, ideating and developing a product in the form of an app or software, it will go on to benefit the economy of our country. Wherever and whenever it is sold, it will add to the economic growth of our country,” said the Education Minister of Delhi, Shri Manish Sisodia.

Entrepreneurial mindset, a crucial skillset for professional development-Dy CM Manish Sisodia

The Deputy CM of Delhi also stressed on the fact that instilling an Entrepreneurial mindset amongst the students is very important as it helps in their overall development.

“Entrepreneurial mindset is a very important aspect of life along with it being a crucial skillset for our professional growth and development .. If you don’t possess an entrepreneurial mindset, you will only see your job as a duty which fetches you some amount of money for dedicating some hours of work. But, you will not be committed towards taking your organisation to new heights by working towards its growth. You will not be looking at ways to benefit your organisation and your professional growth ultimately,” said Shri Manish Sisodia.

He asked the students to continue developing their skills and knowledge but not forget to learn and adopt an entrepreneurial mindset.

Shri Manish Sisodia also spoke about Delhi government’s efforts to promote entrepreneurship by giving seed money worth Rs 5,000 to college students. Every student either independently or as a group can collectively invest this capital seed money to come up with entrepreneurial ideas. They can work on that idea, start their venture and gain profit on that.

Risk in Research is important- Dy CM Manish Sisodia
“I am deliberately stressing on the word ‘risk’ because usually while releasing grants to universities we question them, but we forget that research takes time, so we should trust our universities. I can say that the Delhi government has worked to invest in our universities and will continue to do so to help facilitate our scholars to bring about path breaking research in their respective fields,” said Shri Manish Sisodia

Delhi Government introduced “Entrepreneurship Curriculum” in the year 2019.
