For the fifth year in a row, electricity bills of residents of Delhi have not been allowed to increase. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia congratulated the people of Delhi for electing an honest government, which has made this possible.
Mr Sisodia said, “Delhi is the only state in the country that has not allowed electricity bills to rise for five consecutive years. Not just have prices not gone up, they have actually gone down during the last five years. In every other state in the country, electricity prices continually increase year-on-year. In Delhi, the electricity bill for 200 units with 2 kW load in 2010 was ₹ 539. In 2013, this went to ₹ 928. In 2018 the bill was ₹ 660, and after today’s order the bill for 200 units will now be ₹ 408.”
Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal had announced four months ago that fixed charges in Delhi will be reduced soon. Referring to the chief minister’s assurance, Dy CM Shri Sisodia said, “The chief minister’s assurance has been fulfilled today. Until there is an Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi, Delhi residents will continue to receive cheap electricity.”
Speaking about the improvements in the power supply over the five year period, the deputy chief minister said, “The other major achievement of the Kejriwal government has been the substantial reduction in power cuts. The number of power cuts has plummeted in the last five years. Power cuts were a regular feature in Delhi only some years ago. Now the generator set, inverter industry has been forced to shut down because of regular and reliable power supply in the city.”
“The question is, if power prices in Delhi can reduce every year, why can’t other states do the same? If Delhi can provide 24×7 electricity, why can’t other states? If you compare prices with BJP ruled Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Congress ruled Punjab, Rajasthan, the prices are lowest in Delhi. In Gurgaon, for 200 units of power, the bill is ₹ 910. In Noida, Ghaziabad it is ₹ 1310. In Mumbai it is ₹ 1410. In Ajmer, the bill is ₹ 1588. In Delhi, it is significantly cheaper at ₹ 408. There is a massive scam in electricity pricing in other states and we demand a CBI inquiry into the pricing of power in these states,” said Dy CM Shri Sisodia.
Crediting the chief minister for the making affordable and reliable electricity a reality, Dy CM Shri Sisodia continued, “This has only happened because the chief minister is honest and is concerned about the well-being of the people. Until the Kejriwal government is here, Delhi residents will continue to have cheaper electricity.”
Power Minister Shri Satyendra Jain, who also addressed the press conference, said, “The other big benefit announced today is for Delhi’s small traders, businessmen and service providers. Consumers using a commercial connection up to 3 kW load has been slashed from ₹ 8.50 to ₹ 6. This will significantly benefit local kirana shops, doctors, CAs, and others.”
Hailing today’s developments as a step towards making Delhi India’s Electric Vehicle capital, Jain said, “To promote electric vehicles in the city, the price of LT consumers has been cut down from ₹ 5.50/unit to ₹4.50/unit. For HT consumers, it has been reduced from ₹5/unit to ₹4/unit.”
Explaining the actual impact that today’s reduction in fixed charges will have on households, the power minister said, “The fixed charges for 1-2 kW sanctioned load was ₹125/kW, which has now been slashed to ₹20/kW. For 2-5 kW, it was ₹140/kW and has been reduced to ₹50/kW. From 5 kW to 15 kW it used to be ₹175/kW which has now been reduced to ₹100/kW. All households that consume up to 15 kW load will benefit in the range of ₹122 to ₹1305 per month.”

“मैं दिल्ली के लोगों को बहुत-बहुत बधाई देता हूं जिन्होंने ऐसी सरकार चुनी जिसने पिछले पांच साल से दिल्ली में बिजली के दाम नहीं बढ़ने दिये। दिल्ली में बिजली महंगी नहीं होने दी। आज दिल्ली अकेला ऐसा राज्य है जहां पिछले पांच साल से बिजली के दाम घटे हैं। हर राज्य में बिजली के दाम लगातार बढ़ रहे हैं लेकिन दिल्ली में लगातार बिजली के दाम कम होते गये हैं।“
दिल्ली के उप-मुख्यमंत्री श्री मनीष सिसोदिया ने दिल्ली सचिवालय में हुई एक प्रेस कांफ्रेंस में ये बात कही।
श्री मनीष सिसोदिया ने कहा, “दिल्ली में 2010 में 200 यूनिट बिजली के दाम 539 रुपये थे। साल 2013 में यह 928 रुपये हुए। साल 2018 में ये घटकर 660 रुपये हुआ। और अब आज के बाद ये 408 रुपये हो जाएंगे। आज दिल्ली में 200 यूनिट बिजली के दाम 2010 के मुकाबले भी कम हो गये हैं।“
दिल्ली के उप-मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा, “मुख्यमंत्री श्री अरविंद केजरीवाल जी ने चार महीने पहले घोषणा की थी कि फिक्स चार्जेस कम कर दिये जाएंगे और आज फिक्स चार्जेस कम कर दिये गये हैं। इसके अलावा छोटी दुकान वालों के बिजली के रेट कम कर दिये गये हैं। इससे डॉक्टरों, वकीलों, चार्टर्ड एकाउंटेंट्स, किराना की दुकान वालों को बहुत फायदा होगा। इतना ही नहीं, दिल्ली में 24 घंटे बिजली आ रही है। दिल्ली में लोग इन्वर्टर, जनरेटर भूल गये हैं।“
श्री मनीष सिसोदिया ने कहा, “अगर दिल्ली में ऐतिहासिक रूप से हर साल लगातार कम हो सकते हैं, तो बाकी राज्यों में दाम कैसे बढ़ सकते हैं। दिल्ली में अगर 24 घंटे बिजली मिल सकती है, तो बाकी राज्यों में भारी कटौती क्यों है। आज हम मांग करते हैं कि बाकी राज्यों की सरकारें भी बिजली के दामों में कटौती करें।“
बाकी राज्यों के बिजली के दामों से दिल्ली के बिजली के दामों की तुलना करते हुए उप-मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा, “भाजपा शासित गुरुग्राम में 200 यूनिट बिजली 910 रुपये की है। भाजपा शासित नोएडा में 200 यूनिट बिजली के दाम 1310 रुपये है। भाजपा शासित मुंबई में 200 यूनिट बिजली के दाम 1410 रुपये हैं। वहीं, कांग्रेस शासित अजमेर में 200 यूनिट बिजली के दाम 1588 रुपये हैं। जबकि दिल्ली में 200 यूनिट बिजली के दाम केवल 408 रुपये है।“
श्री मनीष सिसोदिया ने सवाल किया, “बाकी राज्यों में इतनी सस्ती बिजली क्यों उपलब्ध नहीं है। मुझे लगता है कि बाकी राज्यों ने बड़े-बड़े घोटाले कर रखे हैं। इसलिए बाकी राज्य सस्ती बिजली नहीं दे रहे हैं। जनता से लूट बंद करनी चाहिए। इन सभी राज्यों को बिजली के दाम कम करने चाहिए और घोटाले की सीबीआई जांच होनी चाहिए। मैं एक बार फिर कहना चाहता हूं कि दिल्ली के लोगों ने साढ़े चार साल पहले जो ईमानदार सरकार चुनी थी जो दिल्ली के लोगों की जिंदगी बदलने पर काम कर रही है। जब तक दिल्ली में केजरीवाल सरकार है, तब तक दिल्ली वालों को 24 घंटे, देश में सबसे सस्ती बिजली मिलती रहेगी।“
