Stubble burning in the Punjab and Haryana has drastically increased which led to a severe spike in Delhi’s pollution: Dilip Pandey

Every political party should come together going above the political ideology to combat pollution: Dilip Pandey

Till the time Center, Punjab and Haryana govt do not take stern action, alone Delhi can’t fight this spike in pollution: Atishi

NEW DELHI

The AAP leaders on Tuesday slammed the Center and the neighbouring states for not taking stern action against the increasing numbers of stubble burning cases this year in the Punjab and Haryana which has resulted in a huge spike in Delhi air pollution and Delhi has become a gas chamber. ” According to data from the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), the state recorded 9,600 incidents of stubble burning till October 27 last year. This year, the figure has shot up to 12,027. Punjab and Haryana recorded an increase of at least 2,400 farm fires, a major contributor to the air pollution in the national capital, till October 27, according to government data. This increasing numbers of stubble burning cases caused the spike in pollution but neither the centre nor the state government of the neighbouring states has done anything,” said senior AAP leader Dilip Pandey.

He added that Pollution is a very important issue for Delhi and I want to clarify that the available data is saying something very different from what the Bharatiya Janata party is claiming. ” A significant rise in stubble burning was recorded on October 26 and 27. While 2,805 cases were reported on October 26, the number on October 27 touched the 2,231 marks. Haryana witnessed 3,735 farm fires as compared to 3,705 last year. Last week’s satellite data shows that stubble burning incidents in India reached its maximum levels on 26 October,” said Pandey.

He added that central agency SAFAR aslo predicted that due to the stubble burning the pollution level in Delhi rise. “The Ministry of Earth Sciences’ air quality monitor, SAFAR, on Monday predicted that the share of smoke from stubble burning in Delhi’s PM 2.5 concentration is likely to jump to 25 percent on Tuesday. It was 15 percent on Monday,” said Pandey.

He said that It is time to come above the political ideology and political lines of different parties. It is time to join our hands together to fight the issue of air-pollution.

Adding to his statements senior AAP leader Atishi said, ” The Delhi government and its agencies have worked relentlessly to bring down the pollution level of Delhi. The Central pollution control Board data shows that 25% decrease in pollution in Delhi has already taken place. But due to the stubble burning in the neighbouring states this time every work done by the Delhi government like increasing the green cover, the road infrastructure and all other important measures go in vain due to the severe stubble burning.”

She also said that in the last 24 hours there has been 1200 cases of stubble burning and that is something which is recorded which means there can be many more which are not recorded. “Till the time Center, Punjab Haryana come together and take stern action against stubble burning then only the issue could be solved and not Delhi single handedly can combat this pollution. All the emergency actions are being taken in Delhi, from next week Delhi government will distribute free musks through schools, odd even will also start but till the time the Center, Punjab and Haryana Government stay silent the situation will not change,” said Atishi.
