Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday exposed the shocking details of how Gautam Adani sold electricity for higher profits in the power exchange at the time of the coal and power crisis, in violation of its 150 MW power-supply agreement with the Gujarat government. AAP senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sanjay Singh hit out at the Narendra Modi-led Central Government for not taking any action despite the matter being flagged in a letter dated 24 February 2022 written by the Power Ministry of the Government of India to the Coal Ministry and the Government of Rajasthan.

Shri Sanjay Singh had explained on Friday how Gautam Adani carried out a coal block scam of Rs 1 lakh crore by violating Supreme Court orders and central government laws in the allocation of coal blocks. Adani has allegedly sold coal from the Parsa East and Kente Basan blocks to the Rajasthan government at a higher rate than Coal India, using “coal rejects” that should have belonged to the state government for its own use. It is important to note that the two coal blocks of Parsa East and Kente Basan in Chhattisgarh, were allotted by Modi Government to Adani and the Government of Rajasthan despite its cancellation by the Supreme Court.

Continuing the Adani-Modi expose, Shri Sanjay Singh said on Saturday, “Narendra Modi not only allotted coal worth one lakh crore rupees to his friend Adani by violating government laws and a Supreme Court order, but the coal from these blocks was also taken to Adani’s power plants, and the power generated from it was sold by Adani for higher profits instead of fulfilling its contract of power supply with the Gujarat government. Modi and Adani have cheated the people of Gujarat, and this was happening even at the peak of the coal and power crisis.” He added that many more episodes of the Adani-Modi scam saga are to follow.

Hitting out at PM Narendra Modi, the AAP senior leader asked, “If your Ministry of Power had written this letter a year ago, what were your CBI, ED, and other investigative agencies doing all this time? Why weren’t the mines given to Adani shut down? Why was no action taken against Adani?”

The letter presented by Shri Sanjay Singh during the press conference was written in February last year by Shri Vivek Kumar Dewangan (IAS), an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power, Government of India, to the Ministry of Coal and the Government of Rajasthan and clearly states that Adani takes coal from the two coal blocks that had been allotted to him by the Modi Government to his own power plant. The letter also stated that the matter should be thoroughly investigated. He reiterated that Adani extracts coal from the mines, allotted to him by the Modi Government in contravention of the Supreme Court and the laws of the Government of India and takes it to his own power plant.

Highlighting another key detail of the letter, Shri Sanjay Singh said, “According to an agreement with the Gujarat Government, Gautam Adani was required to produce 150 MW of electricity for Gujarat at Rs 4.42 per unit. According to the Power Ministry letter, Gautam Adani, the Gujarat Government’s son, sold the electricity in the power exchange at higher prices, in violation of the contract made with the Gujarat Government. At the time of the coal and power crisis, when Gujarat needed electricity, Adani sold the electricity at higher prices in the power exchange.”

He summed up AAP’s allegations against the Modi Government and Adani, “In addition to my allegation yesterday that Narendra Modi gave coal worth one lakh crore rupees to his friend Adani for free, I have added today that Adani also sold the power generated from these coal blocks to the power exchange for profit instead of to the people of Gujarat, in violation of the 150 MW power supply contract signed with him by the Gujarat Government. Modi and Adani scammed Gujarat, Rajasthan, and the entire nation.”
