Bio

Satyendar Jain is the Minister of Health, Industries, Power, Public Works Department, Home and Urban  Development. He was elected to the Delhi Assembly from the Shakur Basti constituency in February, 2015.

Jain joined CPWD as an architect and later quit his job to set up an Architectural Consultancy firm. He has been closely associated with various social service causes and groups. He became deeply involved in the Jan Lokpal Movement against corruption and quit his career to pursue the same earnestly.

Universalising primary healthcare through mohalla clinics is at the centre of Jain’s vision for the healthcare sector. Over 160 Mohalla clinics are already functional and hundreds more are in various stages of being operationalised.

The AAP government showcased this as a path breaking achievement and received international acclaim. World leaders like former UN secretary general Kofi Annan and former WHO director general Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland praised the project for aiming to provide free public healthcare and indicated the need to scale up the project as well as improve its management. “The project could be a model for all Indian states embarking on the UHC (Universal Health Care) journeys,” read the letter to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal by Annan in his capacity as chair of The Elders, an organisation of independent global leaders founded by Nelson Mandela.
