Narain Dass Gupta is a practicing chartered accountant and a former president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). He is a renowned financial policy expert and has written several books on taxation. Considered by people across party lines as India’s foremost expert on Goods & Services Tax (GST), ND Gupta has even found praise from across the aisle many times. An alumnus of the Shri Ram College of Commerce, ND Gupta’s son Naveen Gupta is also a chartered accountant and the current vice-president of ICAI.

ND Gupta has been contributing to the party’s fight against the Income Tax department’s onslaught on the party’s finances. Despite there being no wrongdoing, the I-T has been sending notice after notice, and ND Gupta’s role has been crucial in helping the party to adhere to the highest standards of book-keeping, as a result of which the party has warded off all persecution.

After being nominated by the party for one of the three Rajya Sabha seats from Delhi, he said,

I will raise the major issues which the nation is facing today, like the after effects of demonetization and the faulty implementation of GST in Rajya Sabha. Every businessman is troubled because of these, and it is impacting their businesses negatively. This has led to a reduction in job opportunities and inflated unemployment.

Gupta is the first ever Indian to be elected on the Board of International Federation of Accountants, U.S.A (a federation of 164 regulatory accounting bodies of 116 countries). He is an alumnus of prestigious educational institutions since passed B.Com (H) from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi and was awarded Outstanding Alumni Award for outstanding achievement in his sphere of activity thereby bringing honor to his Alma Mater which was given by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 30 November 2001. He has passed his CA examinations with distinction. Mr. N.D. Gupta is a thorough professional, an educationist, social worker and successful administrator. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Delhi on 8 January, 2018.
