AAP MLA Anil Jha slammed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid on party’s Delhi unit President Saurabh Bharadwaj’s residence as a complete sham, pointing out that the hospital construction projects under question were cleared in 2016–18, while he only became minister in 2023. He said Saurabh Bharadwaj held no office during the approvals of these projects or the launch of Health Information Management System (HIMS), making the case entirely baseless.
Anil Jha said the raid was nothing but a political conspiracy to divert attention from PM Modi’s fake degree controversy. He warned that while false charges are being fabricated against the former AAP minister, the Prime Minister continues to hide his degree. If that degree turns out to be fake, the Kirari MLA said, it will bring shame not just on Delhi University but on the entire country.
Addressing a press conference, senior AAP leader and Kirari MLA Anil Jha said, “The High Court’s Monday verdict has sparked curiosity across the nation. The judgment states that Delhi University is not bound to disclose the Prime Minister’s degree, but people are asking—why is the degree not being shown? This question is being raised even on the global stage, because the Prime Minister of India travels across the world. Under the Right to Information, citizens have the right to know where their Prime Minister, MPs, or ministers studied, and what their struggles were. Hiding the degree raises serious doubts.”
Recalling his own association with Delhi University, Anil Jha said, “I am a former President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) and studied at Satyawati College. When I became MLA, my college honoured me. Similarly, Delhi University has also felicitated Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and LoP Atishi. Then why is it beyond comprehension that the University is hiding the degree of its own alumnus, the Prime Minister?”
He asserted, “For me, it would be a matter of pride that the Prime Minister studied at my university, and along with other former student union presidents, I would want to send him a congratulatory letter. But the confusion persists over the authenticity of the degree, because it is simply not being made public.”
Declaring the Enforcement Directorate raids against AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj as fabricated, Anil Jha said, “These raids are nothing but a conspiracy to divert attention. Saurabh was not Health Minister in 2018–19, he became Minister only in 2023. Then how can he be accused of irregularities from that period? The raid has been going on since 8 a.m., and nothing has been found. This is clearly to distract from the Prime Minister’s degree controversy.”
Taking a sharp dig at the BJP, he said, “If Antyodaya is truly their goal, then send ED raids to the homes of tailors, washermen, cobblers, barbers, and fishermen in villages—investigate how their jhuggis or clothes were made. This is nothing but a conspiracy to target innocents. The BJP is running a campaign not just against Dalits, minorities, and Muslims, but now even against Brahmins. As a common citizen and as a former student union president, I appeal to the judiciary—let the nation see the Prime Minister’s degree.”
Rejecting the allegations linked to hospital projects, Anil Jha said, “The cases being cited are from 2018–19, involving construction of 24 hospitals in Delhi. At that time, Saurabh Bharadwaj was not the Health Minister. How can he be accused of wrongdoing in that period when he only became Health Minister in 2023? This is nothing but a ploy to deflect attention from the Prime Minister’s degree issue. The AAP stands firmly with Saurabh Bharadwaj and will continue to oppose the BJP’s conspiracies. The people of this country have the right to know where the Prime Minister studied, what his marks were, and the truth of his degree.”
