After their victory in the elections for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the MCD House, the Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday organised a celebratory event at the AAP Headquarters at 206, Rouse Avenue Delhi. AAP National Convenor Shri Arvind Kejriwal was to attend the event with other senior leaders from the party, however the BJP-led Central Government put up barricades on the way and BJP leaders attacked the vehicles of AAP councillors and newly-elected Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi. Looking at the situation, the party decided to not compromise with the Delhi Chief Minister’s security and he was forced to not attend the event.
In a curtailed event that was eventually held on Thursday afternoon, AAP senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sanjay Singh spoke on the occasion while Delhi Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi, Deputy Mayor Aaley Mohammed Iqbal, Leader of House Shri Mukesh Goel and Cabinet Minister Shri Imran Hussain looked on.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sanjay Singh commended the Delhi Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi for standing up against the hooliganism of the BJP councillors in the MCD House. He pointed out that she was forced to adjourn the session 13 times because of the behaviour of the BJP councillors, but still she did not give into their arbitrary demands. He also congratulated Deputy Mayor Aaley Mohammed Iqbal for the victory and said that although the BJP tried their level best to make some votes invalid, the AAP candidate got a whopping 148 votes in his favour to be elected as the Deputy Mayor. This is the first time that AAP has the pair of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the MCD, and it is through them that the party has the opportunity to serve the people of Delhi through the MCD, he added.
However, he said that despite the people’s stamp of trust in the AAP because of their state government’s work in providing hospitals, schools, electricity, water and other services, the BJP has not let the people’s mandate prevail for two and a half months now through sheer hooliganism. But the AAP again asserted its victory by winning the Mayoral and Deputy Mayoral posts in the MCD.
Shri Sanjay Singh hit out at the BJP for having no faith in the Constitution of India and the rule of democracy and highlighted how they went against the Supreme Court’s orders and obstructed the voting process to form the Standing Committee. He said that the BJP made a mockery of the democratic process last night as they created a ruckus in the well of the House, tried to climb onto the stage, tear the ballot papers and throw ink and water in the ballot box. He elaborated that they eventually crossed all limits and went on to attack Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi. All of this can be seen in the videos that are circulating on social media. If the Marshalls were not present during the session, a huge mishap could have happened as female councillors of AAP were targeted by the BJP councillors.
He said that it is shameful that a party that claims to be the largest party in the world is now openly indulging in horse-trading of votes. He pointed out that yesterday on their official Twitter handle they proudly said that they managed to steal some votes of the AAP from one place or another. The BJP seems to take pride in such things and have started to announce to the country that they are freely horse-trading in the MCD House. This must be the first such political party that officially announces that it has brought votes of opposition leaders. He further said that this is why we call them the “Bharatiya Beiman Party”, and it is very unfortunate that the country is being run by such a political party.
He said that the BJP has stooped to such a level that the fight against the party will be a long one and every workers of AAP is ready to battle against them to ensure that it is democracy and the people of India that always win. Shri Sanjay Singh highlighted how every AAP leader is being targeted through the ED, CBI, and Income Tax Department by the Central Government. The CBI raided Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s office and Shri Manish Sisodia’s residence, but they found nothing. Shri Satyendar Jain has been put behind bars on false charges. The struggle against them is a long one and Shri Arvind Kejriwal and AAP workers are ready to brave any repression. Following the path of honesty, we will fight and win against the BJP.
He revealed how the BJP and Shri Narendra Modi are complicity in Adani’s scams that are worth crores of rupees. He pointed out that over the years since 2014, the BJP has favoured Adani by giving them the country’s wealth. Everything from coal, gas, electricity, steel, water, roads, cement, airport, seaport is owned by the Adani Group. The company also faces loans worth 2.5 lakh crore and yet it received a loan waivers worth Rs 84 thousand crore from the government. Adani invests in his own companies through fraud companies based abroad but is not investigated. But the CBI, ED, IT Department, Delhi Police etc. are always ready to embroil even the smallest of AAP workers, he said.
Shri Sanjay Singh highlighted how no other political party would have misused government institutions as much as the BJP. He revealed that Shri Arvind Kejriwal was scheduled to attend this event today, but the BJP has barricaded the AAP office and their workers attacked AAP leaders on the way. He pointed out that his vehicle was stopped thrice on the way and asked to turn back while coming to the AAP Headquarters today. He added that Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi’s vehicle was attacked by workers of the BJP. However, he said that AAP will not be bothered by the attacks of the BJP and said that every time they have been attacked, they have only gone on to perform better in the next election. He reiterated that the support of the people is with AAP and therefore they were not afraid of the BJP.
He also told the crowd that Dr Shelly Oberoi had become the Mayor of Delhi because of the support of the people and not because of the BJP and therefore she and her team would work hard and ensure that the people of Delhi do not face any problems. He further added, “Shelly Oberoi has been elected the Mayor of Delhi. We will now work towards fulfilling Arvind Kejriwal’s vision of a clean and green Delhi.”
