Common facility centre in EV domain to be set up

Tata Technologies (TTL) along with global industry partners and LTSU (Lamrin Tech Skills University) will set up a common facility centre in the Electric Vehicle domain.

A delegation comprising Global CEO of Tata Technologies Warren Harris, President, Global HR and IT, Pawan Bhageria and others called on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and evinced keen interest to set up this unit in the state with a current investment of Rs 250 crore and future investment of Rs 1,600 crore.

Welcoming the initiative, the Chief Minister assured fulsome support and cooperation to Tata Technologies for this project.

The delegation said it will lay thrust on development of MSME in the EV segment with a focus on upskilling youth and creating jobs for youth in Punjab and will also ensure Skill development of youth in the state.

‘Future Tycoons: Start-up Challenge’ project

In May, 2022, the Patiala district administration launched the “Future Tycoons: Start-up Challenge” project under which students, youth, self-help groups, women, differently abled persons, small and big businessmen or the general public can come up with new ideas, concepts or plans for their dream project.

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said with the launch of this project, Patiala has become the first district not only in Punjab but also in the country to reach out to the people of the community who are involved in their own small business or are members of self-help groups.

The district administration, with the help of local industry Angel investors, will provide a suitable platform for further development of their business, industry or enterprise.

The plan is that in June, 2022 the future entrepreneurs who submit the best concepts, ideas or plans to DBEE (District Bureau of Employment Enterprises) or on the official link, a few selected will give their presentation and the winners in each category will get Rs 51 thousand, in addition to cash, seed funding, investment assistance from Angel investors, loans and subsidies, registration on start-up portals etc. will be provided.

Single window in all districts in Punjab for industrial clearances

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on 10th May 2022 that the state government will set up a single window in every district to ensure speedy clearances to industrialists.

During an interactive meeting with industrialists, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said these single windows will enable the industrialists to get clearances for their projects in a prompt, smooth and hassle-free manner. He said they will not have to run from pillar to post to get clearances, thereby saving a lot of time, money and energy.

Faridkot sugar mill – attempt to reopen

Faridkot MLA Gurdit Singh Sekhon assured the farmers in March, 2022, that he would do his utmost to get the Faridkot Sugar Mill operational. He said that the launch of the mill would directly benefit the farmers and also increase employment opportunities in Faridkot.

Earlier, in May 2018, the then AAP leader Gurdit Singh Sekhon had started a hunger strike in Faridkot over the decision of the Punjab government to shift Faridkot cooperative sugar mill’s machinery to Bhogpur in Jalandhar district.
