718 PSTCL employees given appointment letters

26,454 new government jobs announced

On 5th May, 2022, on the 50th day after the oath-taking ceremony, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched a massive recruitment drive to provide 26,454 government jobs to Punjab’s youth.

“Today, I want to share good news with people of the state. An advertisement of 26,454 jobs has been published in newspapers. Jobs will be given on the basis of degrees. There will be no recommendation or bribe. Recruitment will be done in a transparent manner” the Chief Minister said.

145 posts approved in Water and Sanitation department 

On 13th April, 2022, the Punjab Cabinet gave approval to fill up 145 posts of various categories

  • To streamline the functioning of Water Supply and Sanitation Department and provide better rural water supply to people across the state.
  • Categories include 25 Sub Divisional Engineer, 70 Junior Engineer, 30 Junior Draftsman and 20 Steno Typist.
  • Direct recruitment through Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) and Subordinate Service Selection (SSS) Board within a year.

35,000 government contractual jobs to be regularised

On 22nd March, 2022, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that his government would regularise the services of 35,000 Group C and D contractual staff.

“I have directed the Chief Secretary to prepare the draft Bill before the next session. We will implement it at the earliest. I have also asked the Chief Secretary to stop the practice of contractual employment. While schools are without staff, eligible teachers are holding protests for jobs or regularisation. This must end.”, said Bhagwant Mann (Link)

Meanwhile, the service of contractual employees has been extended by one year.

Plan to recruit 10,500 teachers

On 3rd April, 2022, Punjab Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that the Punjab government will recruit 10,500 teachers soon to fill the shortage of teaching staff reiterating the AAP government’s commitment to strengthen the education system in the state, and to increase employment opportunities for the youth.

Appointment letters given to 2373 youngsters

On 11th May, 2022, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann handed over appointment letters to 2373 youngsters at Municipal Bhawan, Chandigarh.

Appointment letters were distributed for the posts of SDEs and Pump Operators in Water Resources department besides Community Health Officers, Staff Nurses, Ward Attendants etc. in Health & Family Welfare and Medical Education & Research departments.

Appointment letters to 43 Junior Engineers handed over 

On 20th May, 2022, Punjab Water Resources and Revenue, Rehabilitation & Disaster Management Minister Mr. Bram Shanker Jimpa handed over appointment letters to 43 Junior Engineers (JEs) at Irrigation Bhawan, Chandigarh.

These JEs have been recruited by PPSC on purely merit basis and in a transparent manner, said the Minister.

Government’s focus on education and employment

Punjab Government is focusing on Education & Employment to stop brain drain, said Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation & Disaster Management and Water Resources Minister Mr. Bram Shanker Jimpa. 

He was addressing a seminar on “Human Trafficking – Challenges and Cure” organised by the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association in association with the Cross Horizon NGO, at Chandigarh Judicial Academy in Chandigarh.

“In a bid to stop brain drain, Punjab Government is entirely concentrating on imparting quality education, providing better healthcare facilities and creating more opportunities for the youth in the state so that they won’t need to look other countries for education and jobs”, said Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation & Disaster Management and Water Resources Minister Mr. Bram Shanker Jimpa
