Food & Civil Supplies Minister orders crackdown on hoarding and blackmarketing of onions
·         Mr Imran Hussain reviews the status of onions distribution on subsidised rates
Food & Civil Supplies Minister Mr Imran Hussain on Friday directed the department and concerned agencies to intensify field inspections for ensuring that there is no hoarding, black marketing and profiteering of onions.
The minister gave the direction in a meeting to review the status of onions distribution in Delhi on subsidised rates, which was attended by the Commissioner, Food and Civil Supplies (CFS) and senior officers of the Revenue Department, Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation (DSCSC), APMC/DAMB etc.
The Minister observed that general public is showing keen interest in the purchase of onions through designated Fair Price Shops (FPS) and mobile vans. During the meeting, Mr Hussain praised the efforts of Food & Civil Supplies Department and DSCSC for ensuring adequate supply of onions through mobile vans and Fair Price Shops.
The Minister also reviewed the difference between wholesale prices and retail prices of onions in Delhi. He directed that in order to ensure that the wholesalers, middlemen, commissioned agents (Aarhtiyas) etc., do not take advantage of the current onion situation in Delhi, there is a need to constantly watch their market activities for checking any irregular or unusual activities such as hoarding, black marketing, profiteering etc.
He directed that enforcement teams of officers/officials of the department, APMC, DAMB, Revenue Department etc., be directed to make regular field inspections and carry out enforcement activities in order to check the instances of hoarding, black-marketing and profiteering. The enforcement teams will also check the implementation of stock limits prescribed for the onion and violators may strictly be proceeded against as per provisions of law.
The Minister directed that all the agencies should work in coordination with each other to ensure timely, regular and adequate supply of onion to all the designated 390 Fair Price Shops and the mobile vans engaged for sale of onion in all the 70 Assembly Constituencies of Delhi.
 
Mr Hussain further informed that the government is closely and regularly monitoring and reviewing the price movement of onion with officers concerned.
