Delhi government today inaugurated special libraries designed for the Primary sections of 100 Sarvodaya Vidyalayas. Government schools have had one common library for children of all Classes, but this the first time that separate libraries have been established for younger children studying in primary classes.
Each library has on average 600 books of various levels. All teachers in Primary sections have been specially trained for the use of libraries, in order to make them an integral part of everyday teaching-learning activities.
During the launch of this program at Sarviodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Moti Bagh, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, “Libraries have a huge role in developing evolved young minds. The Delhi government is keen to inculcate a library culture among children, which will go a long way in ensuring that children broaden their horizons beyond their syllabus.”
This program is being developed in partnership with non-profit organization “Room To Read”. Libraries like those launched today will be opened in all 430+ Sarvodaya Schools over the next three years. Libraries play a huge role in supplementing the normal course of teaching inside classrooms.
The Delhi government’s mission is to transform government schools, in order to provide high-quality, accessible education to every child in Delhi. Today’s launch of new libraries will significantly improve the educational experience of children in government schools.
