Delhi Government to organise a two-day Autumn Festival at Shahpur Jat on 19-20 Oct

Delhi Government’s Shahpur Jat Autumn Festival to in flavours of History and Fashion.

New Delhi: To celebrate the unique rural and urban traditions of Delhi through the flavour of culture and fashion, the Delhi government is all set to host a two-day urban folk festival on Saturday and Sunday in Shahpur Jat village in South Delhi. The Art, Culture and Language Department under Deputy CM Shri Manish Sisodia has organised this festival.

The festival will kick start on the 19th October, 2019, will include fashion walks and a heritage walk aimed at understanding the history of the urban village of Shahpur Jat and a series of folk dances from Haryana. Comedian Sanjay Rarora and poet of comic verses Sunil Jogi will also be performing at the Autumn Festival. This year the special attraction of the festival would be performance by celebrated Bollywood singer Monali Thakur. I

Appreciating the effort and the idea of celebrating the capital’s urban village of Shahpur Jat which has an interesting history and also houses a lot of fashion brands, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Shri Manish Sisodia said, “It is a unique effort to highlight the rich heritage and culture of the Shahpur Jat village. I want people of Delhi to get to know about this unexplored urban village and protect its heritage.”

The Deputy CM also congratulated Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj, MLA from Greater Kailash, in whose constituency Shahpur Jat is located, for his dedicated efforts towards the festival. “I congratulate Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj for his active efforts towards bringing the village into the limelight. He has ensured community participation through a series of fashion walks and folk performances, ”said Shri Manish Sisodia.

Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj explained the concept behind the unique festival and also welcomed the visitors, “I am glad to announce the two-day Shahpur Jat Autumn Festival and would welcome you all to be a part of this unique experience.”

The two-day festival that commences on 19th October and ends on 20th October, 2019, will include Haryanvi folk music and dance, a fashion show by Shahpur Jat designers, local performances by children, heritage walks by Intach and a music performance by Bollywood singer Monali Thakur.
