The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday exposed how Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been using the Delhi Police to spy on the Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal. Revealing the details of Modi Government’s ‘snoopgate’, AAP Senior Leader and Delhi Cabinet Minister Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj informed that the Delhi Police’s ‘Special Staff’ has been interrogating visitors of CM’s residence in a mysterious manner. The people of Delhi have elected their son Arvind Kejriwal thrice to the CM’s seat, spying on someone like him is an unpardonable crime, Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj said in a press conference held today. He also remarked that the AAP Government’s differences with the Modi Government are out in the open, but if they fall so low that they spy on the national capital’s CM, then it is very dangerous for the country.

The AAP leader alleged that PM Modi wants to politically assassinate CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal and crush the AAP. He also pointed out that a drone was spotted flying over CM’s residence despite it being a no-fly zone, and questioned why no arrests have been made yet. The Aam Aadmi Party has demanded that the Central Government and Delhi Police Commissioner come out before the public and explain what special task has the police given to its special staff that they are spying on the CM. AAP MPs Shri Sanjay Singh and Shri Raghav Chadha have also written to the Delhi Police Commissioner, demanding an explanation for officers spying on the CM.

Addressing a press conference on this matter, AAP Senior Leader and Delhi Cabinet Minister Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj said that in the past few days, two senior leaders & MP of AAP, Shri Sanjay Singh and Shri Raghav Chadha, have raised this issue by writing a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner Shri Sanjay Arora, however, they have received no response from the Delhi Police.

Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj read out the contents of the letter by Shri Sanjay Singh on this matter. “It is through the medium of this letter that I would like to bring to your attention a very serious issue. The residents of Delhi with a lot of love and affection have thrice voted for Shri Arvind Kejriwal to be their Chief Minister. It is very unfortunate that over the last few years, there have been some lapses in his security and therefore there have been some attacks on the Chief Minister of Delhi. It is the duty of the state police to keep its citizens safe. However, in Delhi, the police have not only failed to keep its residents safe, but it has also failed to keep the Chief Minister of Delhi safe.”

The letter further reads, “A couple of days ago, a drone was spotted flying outside the official residence of Shri Arvind Kejriwal. Unfortunately, even to this day, no one has been arrested for this offence. Over the last couple of days it has been noticed that a few officers belonging to the ‘Special Cell’ of Delhi Police have been seen roaming around outside the residence of Delhi Chief Minister throughout the day. When asked about the reason for their presence, these officers have stated that they are there on a “special task”. What is this “special task” that has been assigned to these officers that has not even been conveyed to the Chief Minister. Are these officers deputed outside the CM residence to keep a watch on him and his movements?

“The police officers in every state work hard to keep their Chief Minister safe, but why are the officials of Delhi Police being used in this case to keep a watch on the Delhi CM? Is it not illegal for the state police to spy on its own chief minister? The law and order situation in Delhi is on the decline and in news reports we have seen that crimes against the citizens of Delhi are on the rise. In such a situation should the police officials not be involved in keeping the residents safe, rather than spying on an elected chief minister on the behest of a rival political party. The residents of Delhi have been raising the questions that have been asked in this letter and we sincerely hope that the chief of the police force in Delhi will be able to answer the questions that have been asked by the people. We will sincerely be waiting to get a response on these questions from you,” the letter reads.

Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj said that this letter was addressed to Delhi Police Commissioner Shri Sanjay Arora. He also showed another letter written by Shri Raghav Chadha to the same officer on this issue. He went on to ask what are the duties that are assigned to the “Special staff” of the Delhi Police? He further said that everyone in the country is aware of the nature of the job of “special staff” officers of other state police departments. He also said that these officers of other police departments often are assigned work that is of a sensitive nature and they often have to travel far away from their homes to carry out their responsibilities.

Highlighting the nature of the work of these officers, Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj said that these people often remain in civilian clothes and carry out their own work because of the nature of their responsibilities. He also said that sometimes these officers also have to work in close association with some criminal gangs in the state.

He went on to clearly state that the elected government of Delhi has no issues with these special staff officers as they are only carrying out the tasks assigned to them. He further added that the Delhi Government is concerned about what kind of work the Central Government is making these officers carry out and whether these are within the purview of the law of the land. “These officers in Delhi are roaming around outside the official residence of the Delhi CM and keeping a watch on who enters or leaves the residence. They are also following people who leave the residence and asking them questions regarding why they had come here. The question that arises is that why is the Central Government spying on the elected Chief Minister of Delhi?” he asked.

The reason this question is important is because everyone is aware of the relationship between the BJP and AAP. He added that the citizens of the country are aware that the Central Government feels threatened by the rising graph of AAP and therefore it is trying to politically “finish off” the party and its national convenor Shri Arvind Kejriwal. “Therefore the presence of these officers outside the residence of Delhi CM and spying on his activities raise some very serious questions. Two of our Rajya Sabha members have also raised this question and here I would also like to ask the Central Government what is the task given to these officers who are stationed outside the residence of Shri Arvind Kejriwal?,” he asked.

He concluded by saying that he hoped that the Central Government or the Delhi Police Commissioner will be able to answer the questions raised by him and other senior AAP leaders on this issue.

On the other hand, the letter written by MP Shri Raghav Chadha states, “Through this letter, I want to draw your attention towards a very serious matter. With great faith and love, the people of Delhi have made their son Arvind Kejriwal the Chief Minister of Delhi thrice. It is a matter of great sadness that there have been lapses from time to time with the security of such a popular public leader and many times he has also been attacked. It is the responsibility of the state police to provide security to its people. It is sad that, leave alone the people of Delhi, the police is not even able to keep the Chief Minister of Delhi safe. Recently, a drone was seen flying outside the residence of the Chief Minister of Delhi. It is a matter of doubt that till date no person has been arrested in that case.”

The letter further reads, “For the last three to four days, we have seen that many police officers of Delhi Police Special Cell are roaming outside the CM’s residence 24×7. When asked, they say that they are on a special task. What such task has been given to them by the Delhi Police? Is the police spying on CM Kejriwal through these officers now? The police of every state works to ensure the security of its chief minister, why is the Delhi police spying on its chief minister? Isn’t this completely illegal? For what purpose is CM Arvind Kejriwal being spied on?”

In the letter the MP has also stated that the law and order situation in Delhi is very bad. “Serious crimes are happening in Delhi every day. It is the job of the Delhi Police to stop these crimes and not waste time spying on the CM under the pressure of one party. The people of Delhi are looking towards you with great hope. We have full hope that you will respect your uniform and the people of Delhi. Will be waiting for your answers to the questions we have asked you.”
