The month of October has been especially good for the children of Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party government added 5,695 classrooms to schools run by the Delhi government. This was one of the largest infrastructure expansions the capital has ever seen. The new classrooms were inaugurated by Education and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on 7 October 2017 from Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Mandawali.

New Classroom in Delhi Govt School

The new classrooms have been built in over 100 government schools spread across the city, in an effort to make up for the severe space deficit. Unfortunately, previous governments had paid no attention to the state of school infrastructure. However, the AAP government has rapidly invested in public schools of Delhi. The design of classrooms has been made keeping in mind the needs of children for an aesthetic environment conducive to learning – they are airy, spacious and well-lit, with beautiful desks and green boards.

In addition to this,  Mr. Sisodia launched hundred specialized libraries in the primary sections of Sarvodaya Vidyalayas of the Delhi government in October. “Libraries have a huge role in developing evolved young minds. The Delhi government is keen to inculcate a library culture among children, which will go a long way in ensuring that children broaden their horizons beyond their syllabus,” he said.

Libraries like these will be opened in all 430+ Sarvodaya Schools over the next three years. Libraries play a huge role in supplementing the normal course of teaching inside classrooms. The AAP government’s mission is to transform schools, in order to provide high-quality, accessible education to every child in Delhi.

Along with upgrading the quality of education in government schools, the government has also made significant progress in enhancing the sporting infrastructure for children of Delhi. October also saw the launch of a synthetic athletic track in East Delhi, made to international standards and open for public use.

In another significant development, a new football field is coming up soon in a Delhi government school in Najafgarhz. The facility is being scrutinized by FIFA officials (the international football regulatory organization) to give it international accreditation.

The AAP government is systematically creating world-class infrastructure for the children of Delhi. An entire generation of Delhi’s youth is being provided access to resources that will truly make a phenomenal impact on their lives. The impact of these reforms will be experienced by this city for decades to come as we enter into an era of equal opportunity.
