The city of Mumbai was served yet another shock this monsoon, as a bridge collapsed near Andheri station, injuring five including senior citizens.

AAP is shocked, disgusted and infuriated at the callousness with which the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in power in the City-(BMC), State-(Maharashtra Govt) and Centre, treats human lives. The BJP-Shiva Sena share equal responsibility for this disaster as all Govt agencies at all 3 levels of Govt, directly or indirectly report to their Govts.

Mumbai city is crumbling and increasingly becoming unliveable. Be it the regular flooding or collapse of bridges , coupled with poor infrastructure, the collapse of governance has been consistent despite Mumbaikars paying the highest  taxes.

It may be recalled that in 2016, the Railways and the BMC had claimed it has done an exhaustive audit of all overhead bridges on the Western Railway between Churchgate and Virar. Where is that report?

After the Elphinstone Bridge tragedy, the Railway Minister and CM went on record, promising an exhaustive safety audit of all railway overhead bridges. What ever happened to that?

Shockingly, in a response to an RTI application on the robustness of railway footbridges, the Indian Railways responded saying ” all bridges on the Churchgate – Virar section have been audited and found ro be safe and therefore there will be no loss of human life “.

AAP demands the resignation of the General Manager, MRVC-Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation, Ajoy Mehta- BMC Commissioner and guardian ministers of Mumbai Suburbs and Mumbai City. AAP believes good governance is impossible if responsibility is not fixed and heads don’t roll. If this is not done, AAP will launch a city wide agitation against this shameless, spineless and incompetent Govt.

AAP condemns the continuous and absolute apathy and unpreparedness of  the BMC and the Railways and demands an explanation on why the city and its citizens must keep bearing the brunt of their inefficiency, despite paying their taxes year after year
